Police said Wednesday they've been unable to verify initial statements made by Carlee Russell, the Alabama woman who disappeared last week after she said she saw a toddler walking on the interstate. But officials did say that before she vanished, she made internet searches about paying for Amber Alerts, how to take money from a register without getting caught and the movie "Taken."
Police also said Russell told them she was forced into an 18-wheeler truck and taken to a home where a man and a woman told her to get undressed and then took photos of her.

Maine heating prices hold steady as fall approaches
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The Maine Governor’s Energy Office says heating prices are holding steady in Maine as fall nears.
The office says the average price for heating oil rose a penny over the last few weeks to $1.88 per gallon. Kerosene prices have also held steady at $2.41 and propane prices have increased 3 cents to $2.15 per gallon.
Prices were fairly consistent throughout the state. Northern Maine averaged a slightly higher $2.

The weekend before Halloween saw a spate of deadly mass shootings in several U.S. cities that left at least 11 people dead and 76 others injured, according to data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive.
