SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (KBOI) — A group of inmates attacked a deputy in Caribou County earlier this week in an attempt to escape the jail.
The Caribou County Sheriff's Office says the inmates attacked the jail deputy early Monday morning. During the attack, the sheriff says, the deputy was able to fight back and call for help.
Another deputy responded and was able to help get the inmates back in their cell. Numerous police agencies responded to the jail to assist and control the situation.
"The attempted escape was thwarted by the quick decisive actions of the sheriff's office employees, responding units and internal security measures," sheriff Kelly Wells said in a statement.
The deputies were injured but were treated and released by medical personnel. A team of investigators will review the attack and attempted escape.
